Globally, the Indian education industry ranks amongst the largest, with an extensive network of more than 1.4 million schools and 35,000 higher education institutes. Rising income levels, rapid urbanization, increasing number of working women along with increasing awareness about importance of quality education has resulted in robust growth of the Indian Educational industry. With the growing penetration of educational segments such as Pre-school, Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in schools etc, the market size of the Indian Education industry aggregated to Rs. 3,833.1 billion during FY2013. Importantly, over the years, the role of private sector in education has increased with the setting-up of institutes especially in the K-12 and Higher Education segment. The government has constantly emphasized on the growth of education in the country and has undertaken many initiatives for the same; such as Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act 2009, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Mid-day Meal scheme and The National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT).
